I also read something interesting, I can only go off what I read. But he said in the original films Luke had to work to get the powers and develop it. But then all of a sudden the 'strong female lead tm' instantly got the powers without any practice or having to earn it because of girl power. :Z

She is a girl man. Come on bro!

She doesnt have to earn it!

She deserves it due to her being a girl and a beauty.

She is entitled to it!

A guy has to work for it but she is a special snowflake so she will get it automatically.

Dont be so ignorant Ben.

A Princess is given everything in an instant and if u dont get with the program then u are a chauvanistic pig and a misogynist.

HAHAHAHAHAH

is it with a female lead?

I hate hollywood promoting female leads and completely destroying the male centered films?

Have to give it a miss if that is the case. Cant stand female leads in every other film man.

Yes it is, and that's part of it. Mostly it's the unrealistic nature of the film. I mean, if the rebels were that good (i.e. the final battle *rolls eyes*) then why didn't they just attack the death star? Clearly they could have with not only how resourceful and brilliant they were, but also with how incompetent and useless the imperials were.

In no way did I believe that the imperials could have taken control of the galaxy with their level of competence. Nor did I believe the rebels were struggling at any point.

It was just too unbelievable. In the words of Darth Vader "All too easy"

That's right (is it my post you read?) It took Luke Skywalker 3 films to develop the force power "mind control" (and even then, he used it wrong! lol) whereas in Star Wars 7, Rey figured it out in a few minutes.

Don't get me wrong, there were parts I thouroughly enjoyed as well (Moff Tarkin FTW, Darth Vader killing the rebels, the rebel ship crashing into the star destroyer and exploding as they were trying to escape) but there were far too many cliche and convenient and "they are the good guys, and THAT is why it's working" moments for me to enjoy it.

The first 3rd of the film was really good and I was thinking it might be different, but then they started stacking up the unrealism to a point where I was just baffled.

It is too bad.
ROGUE ONE SPOILERS

I'm not that anal with all the "that's too hard to believe," crap. You're watching a movie that has aliens, the Force, and all kinds of shit that defy logic and reality - and you sit in a theater watching a new Star Wars movie thinking, "I don't believe it can happen!" Then don't watch Star Wars anymore. Imagination > logic.

Rey doing what she can do? We don't even know who she is yet. Perhaps it was done on purpose. We just don't know.

Just attack the Death Star? It's a battle station the size of a small moon, and they had no clue where the weakness was without the stolen plans. THAT would have been hard to believe.

And for the movie being about the "good guys win because they're good guys?" Did you forget that THEY ALL DIED in the movie!? This was one of the darkest entries in the entire series. BTW, how is that any different than any of the original trilogy movies? Was Return of the Jedi ruined for you because a bunch of furry teddy bears put the beatdown on the Empire?

If you're that harsh on fantasy movies, you gotta relax. It's all fiction, all completely unbelievable, and that's what makes it so much fun.

The fan service and Easter Eggs, not to mention the attention to detail (did you notice Red 5 got killed - you know, the call sign Luke takes over when he flies against the Death Star?) I could go on and on about how badass this movie was.

Lol... no. Because there has to be SOME logic to keep continuity/congruence in order to MAINTAIN the illusion/imagination, otherwise we might as well have people flying without spaceships, and impervious to laser blasts.

Here's what I'm talking about:

There's a scene in RO where the walkers are chasing the rebels. There are 2 groups of rebels. The non main characters in the back, and the main characters in the front. The walker shoots beside the non MCs and they die, then the waklker shoots beside the MCs (and closer, at that) and they don't even flinch. I mean seriously?

ANY moment where I realize I'm watching a movie or any moment where I'm like "ok, that happened because these are the good guys" is a major turn off. Because it kicks me out of the universe.

Another example was when the imperials entered the rebel ship to inspect it, and minutes later the rebels (dressed up as the imperials) exit the ship, which is fine, except that the rebel guy had facial hair and the imperial officer who went inside did not, yet the guards and other imperials didn't notice this spontaneous growth of facial hair?? It's just poorly done. It's like the writers have to rely on "hero/good guy physics" to overcome their lack of imaginative story telling.

Don't even get me started on the part where the imperial ship blasts off, sending our heroine flying from the force of the engines while everyone (and everything) else on the platform stayed stationary...

I say that's convenient.

Lol not after what I've seen.

Besides, they're the good guys remember? You gotta let them take liberties!

(You see why continuity is needed now... yes? Good.)

My cousin mentioned how there was a certain point in the movie where people started to die. Very true.

I didn't think it was "dark" by any stretch.

Imperial "white uniform" killing the girl instead of going into cliched "bond villian speech mode" would have been dark.

Rebel facial-hair-man killing girl's father when he had the chance would have been dark.

The imperial garrison in the desert town actually winning against the ambush would have been dark (and would have shown the imperials were actually a force to reckon with)

Like I said, I don't care that it's fiction, I don't even care that they have a female lead.

But spare me the inconsistencies and "good guy" powers. Spare me the cliches and "motivational/rally speech" moments as well. I've seen enough of those speeches to be able to quote the gist of them:

"Guys, we can't give up. Think of the rebellion! Think of democracy and the good stuff! If we give up now, the galaxy will turn to darkness, the darkside will win, and we will lose. Think of the children!"

Oh yeah, and that part where she gives the robot the gun? Yeah, saw that coming too, despite the robot saying "you constantly surprise me" (didn't see that dialogue coming tho lol)

Nostalgia. Yeah I noticed the nostalgia. (not the red 5 call sign. seriously, who gives a f*ck??) I noticed that they used several characters and exact lines from old movies, even exact film footage which was just... ugh! *face palm*.

I don't want to relive memory lane, I want a NEW story in a COOL universe.

Like I said, I thought this one had it at first, then it plummeted.

BUT that is

JUST

MY

OPINION!!

*Think it's why I'm still a virgin?!?!?*
Finally, Sarge and I agree on something. lol Good points, Sarge. I noted a lot of that too.

This is a momentous occasion then Shannon! lol.
It's obviously proof of the reality breaking technology in DMSI. lol
I'll respond to all things Star Wars some other time. It gets my blood up, and I don't want that this morning. :-)

Super-tired, impatient, and light anxiety this morning. I wanted to sleep more, but can't because I need to be a good parent. Going to need to work on the impatience thing, then, because I find myself raising my voice for every-little-thing.

Multiple dreams:

First, I was using pheromones around my SIL and figuring out which ones worked best on her. In the dream, Nude Alpha won big time. Dream over.

Next, had a dream of my big breasted new neighbor. We were on the phone discussing our next meet-up to bang.

Last, dreamt I was part of a futuristic mafia. I was proving my worth and trust to them, and impressed the Boss big-time. There was more to it, but that was the gist.

Gotta work. Ugh.
No need to get your blood up. You have your point of view, we have ours and neither of us is wrong. It's just different points of view and opinions about a movie. You want something different from it than Sarge and I do. It's not worth getting upset over.

I wasn't really srs, though I love Star Wars. I agree with you, and as long as it makes money and they make more movies, I'm happy.

I do always enjoy a good debate, however. Wink

Oh, okay. Well in that case: I win, debate over. Big Grin
Hardy-har-har! Wink

Today's been a bit of a bitch.

-Headache(s)
-Anxiety, off & on
-Restlessness
-Neediness
-Nostalgia
-Weariness (2 short naps)
-Boredom
-Anger/irritibility
-Impatience (with little things, and the program in particular - only b/c of aforementioned experiences today)

Putting my son to be shortly. I'll then be running my hybrid loops on speaker before bed, so I can get a good night's sleep.
