Yes, you are right. As much as I know (and I think Geodude talked about that too) the first step is to experience the desired outcome in your head. You just image what you want to achieve. If you did that a few times and it's getting easier and more natural, you can make the next step to try to get the result in the "real world". Your brain can't see the difference between real and fake, so by imagining you are building new pathways in the direction you want them to go.
By doing that the brain and body will try to do the things to replicate the outcome you did write into your brain.
