Shannon didnt say to not use ultrasonic on headphone because of tinnitus but rather because you can lift up the volume by accident and you didn't even notice which would damage your ear. A natural consequence would be tinnitus. But it's the consequences not the cause.
In case of tinnitus Shannon said to avoid ultrasonic with headphone and speaker if I remember correctly. I found that in the tinnitus sub instruction or thread. The word "avoid" might not be what he used though.
