I have noticed that for me, the amount of eye contact I make depends on how projective or receptive I am feeling on that particular day. Some days I can instantly drill my energy through the back of someone else's skull with a glance at their eyes, and other days I am absorbing more than projecting anything. When I am in that receptive mode, I notice that I avoid eye contact more because receiving the eye contact from others then is like being splatted in the face with a pie in some sense. Rather jarring and unpleasant. Not that it makes any major contribution, but I thought it might be interesting for you guys to consider that point of view.
