Regarding the exercise portion of losing weight, I feel one should concentrate on slimming the waist rather than outright loss of weight. I followed the hardcore plan in "The New Rules of Lifting for Abs" for 12 weeks, shrank my waist 4 inches, and abs are finally showing. Weight loss will follow if you focus more on tightening up and "getting lean" specifically rather than simply "losing weight" generally.
