Headphones are preferred, because they increase the effectiveness of the subliminals. From what I understand, headphones ensure that the messages are clearly delivered to each ear, and therefore each hemisphere of your brain. This ensures a synergy between the hemispheres that is about 20% more effective than speakers alone.
Speakers work well. They work better if set up according to the instructions. Headphones work even better.
I've used the subliminals over headphones; with a stereo in my room; on my car stereo; and with a laptop set up on the table next to where I was working or sleeping. They all work to varying degrees, and these degrees range from very well to excellent.
