I agree with you about pets. I've lost a few over time, it's horrific. People who don't have them perhaps don't understand the deep bond and attachment that develops. I can actually be at places, and out of habit look down at the ground for my cat, even though of course he isn't there and is at home, lol. It's incredible.
At least you still have Ami with you. And Dani is in no pain or discomfort now.
I still have Ami, but we don't expect her to make it very long without Dani around. Those two were inseperable. And no matter how much I try to I cannot replace Dani for her. My cat doesn't seem to register that Dani is gone yet (the cat was a real dick to the dogs until I realized what he was doing when I wasn't around and corrected his behavior, but by then they learned to avoid him forever more), but he knows Master is upset for some reason, and he's trying to be there for me. This cat, man, he's so human in some ways. He even learned how to politely request my attention while I am working. Lately he spends a lot of time sitting on my lap, leaning against my chest sideways, and purring for me. Super loving cat. And I have gf, who is very supportive also.
Regardless, the cycle that started with my mother buying those dogs has been part of what has held me down and held me in place since she died, and now they are coming to the end of their lives as tat cycle ends. It is a necessary ending for us all, even if it is painful and challenging to go through. Soon enough it will be over and I will be free to make some changes I have been wanting and needing to make for a long time.
