As Qiel recommended I would use the masked version, otherwise you are the whole time overthinking the usage (is the device right, is the sound loud enough, ...).
Just listen to the one loop either on ocean or trickling stream in a comfortable volume. Do that and follow the instructions. Do not expect anything to change within the first 3 months of usage. Just use it and continue with your life.
