Yes. Yes. Yes.
DRS starts working immediately, and you'll usually start consciously noticing a difference within a few minutes to about 45 minutes, depending on variables, and most frequently in 20 minutes or less. The instructions are for "most people" and "most situations". I want you to follow the instructions, but in the case of DRS, if you need more exposure than that, feel free!
I'm finding that it's also a good idea to have some sort of backup energy source when doing over 2 loops of DRS in order not to get drained when "the going gets tough". Out of foods, for this purpose I mostly use energy bars with nuts and vitamins they're selling around here (as they have good dense calories packed into a tiny meal) and "chi regeneration" as it's done in Tai Chi.
I also felt a little drained after playing extra loops. I accept it’s a small price to pay for the extra protection. However, I would definitely not play extra loops unless necessary, in my experience the recommended two loops a day are just right. I will look into some energy regeneration techniques like you suggested. I do not think food would work for me.
