$1000 isn't too terrible in terms of home repair. Could have been way worse. But of course it always strikes at the most inconvenient time.
I ended up with a door that needs repair or replacement, and a hole in my wall that needs repair. My kitchen sink also needs re-piping. And the water damage makes up for the rest of it. I don't think there's ever a "convenient time" for things like home damage to strike.
