I just read Sully's comment. I think his whole line of thinking is wrong

First he's beating himself up because he can't do something (lowering self esteem for no good reason). Just resolve to do better next time.
Second, he's comparing himself to other (in his eyes) "greater men" which again is a set up for failure. The only man you're competing with is you and who you were yesterday. Again, resolve to be better.
I'd suggest you thoroughly re-examine the way you evaluate yourself because judging from that comment its quite destructive.
