Weird, that reminds me of once years ago my harddrive space got down to like 500kb and my desktop went really mental and other icons appeared i'd never seen in the start menu, stuff like "eject computer". I wish I took a screenshot or something as i've never come across it again.
That sounds like some form of malware.
