I have this one: MDR-XB30EX, frequency up to 24KHz according to the world of google; although it has the "EXTRA BASS" written in caps on the box, probably I can adjust my cell phone's settings, put it to Jazz or lowering bass; it's the over 20kHz ability to handle that matters, yes?

Also, is it recommended NOT watching a movie or reading the news while listening to the sub as it may affect your subconscious?

I don't know how they implemented the "extra bass" so Jazz settings would probably be good.

You can use the sub whenever you like. Your subconscious will not be affected any differently than otherwise because you watch a movie while listening. The movie is not subliminal.
