I'm pretty much the perfect example of someone who had their life dictated by fear and on top of that not even consciously aware of how badly I was screwing up because of it. When most people think fear they think fight or flight, anxiety, nervousness, they think of very obvious physical symptoms to go along with it. But fear can simply masquerade as avoidance. It can be subtle and manipulative, it can cause you to post rationalize your decisions you've made under the influence of it. There are definitely other factors at play besides fear, but fear is without a doubt the big one.
