I do think there are genes we inherited from our ancestor but it's a lot more complex than that, it goes back to 7 generation, and you can pick the bad or good in it depending on you.
Sarge you are not force to be like your family though. This is just a part of the whole but still an important part.
But depending on what you inherited from your ancestors you may be better or worse than your family. For example I never understood why my brother seems so much less intelligent than me, less shiny, less confident, less the center of attention than me. Until I found some esoteric method to describe the part of our DNA we got from our ancestor. It's related to karma or bad karma we got. If you want to know more about that ask in the astrology thread, I think this method is accurate until now I only found good results with it.
