From the FAQ:

This discount ONLY applies if you upgrade to the next consecutive version; if you have Version 5.0 and buy Version 6.0, you get the discount. If you wait and purchase Version 7.0 or later, there is no discount.
In theory, theory and practice are the same. In practice, they are not.
