I'm not sure what is wrong with windows 8 for you. You say it's slower and so on. However. If this is the case. You should look into SSD Drives. Look them up and you will be pleased. Everything in your computer runs faster.

I'm already running on an SSD. The fact is, Windows 8 is a pig. Windows 8 in a VM is a slow pig. And Windows 8 in a VM running software in compatibility mode is a really slow pig. It used to be that I could just work until I was done. Now I have to reboot the VM 2-3 times a day to refresh the "speed" I started with, which is to say, return it to 3x slower than what I was getting, instead of 5 to 10x slower. This is not making my work go any faster.

Windows, my friends, is not designed for productivity. It's designed to generate maximum profit for those who make, maintain, "optimize" and "fix" it. The software I use does run on Linux through WINE, although certain critical functionality is still missing. On Windows through WINE, it runs 3-4x faster than on the old build environment. Every year I check, and every year it is more functional through WINE. So maybe next year...

Or, maybe I'll spend a ton of money and start using a completely different DAW. And spend weeks figuring out a new workflow. Whatever the case is, the show will go on.
