Also, since the number of days on and off listening to a multi-stage program like UMS v2 rarely adds up perfectly to 32 days, is there a recommended amount of days we should take off between stages, or should we just go with with how our subconscious urges us to?

The best option is to follow AutoConfig if you are getting input from that, and make a decision based on what seems to be the best choice to you based on the circumstances otherwise.
