For some reason AM6 helped me a bit with that

Addictions have a number of root causes, including guilt, shame, fear, emotional pain and physical pain.  The person experiences this state (or states) so intensely that they cannot handle it, and they will seek anything that will relieve their discomfort.  This can in some cases result in intentional or unintentional addiction as a coping mechanism.  Basically focusing oneself repeatedly into a specific activity or substance to escape the discomfort of the discomfort.  When you address the discomfort, the root cause is dealt with and the need for this escape is relieved.  In the case of AM6, it can be a big help with certain types of addictive behaviors and responses, but again, not specifically designed for that.
