Hey mate I've actually gone and purchased a setup from an audio specialist. They gave me some pretty good advice. Essentially they advised that it is extremely unlikely that a single speaker on its own / desktop speakers (unless you are spending several thousands) will be able to play anything down in the in low frequency range of 20-40 hz, and if it states that it can then its almost a marketing ploy and a lie.
But I remembered that Ultrasonic predominately plays at 17Khz (when I used freqensee) and so I think I've been over analysing and worrying about the lower end range for no reason hahahahah. Oooooops! All a learning experience!
I've purchased a set-up of a digital to analogue converter (by Cambridge Audio) and a set of AudioEngine A5+ desktop speakers. The advice I got was that the converter would ensure that all the 'digital' data from my MacBook Pro would be converted perfectly to 'analogue' without any data loss (so you maintain perfect depth and clarity of sound) to the speakers. The speakers have a frequency response range of 50hz - 22Khz +/- 1.5Db.
Total cost was $900 AUD. Not cheap but overall good value considering the quality, and ultimately I'm confident it will play all 3 versions of the Subs well. I was also thinking that I will be planning on investing at least that much money if not alot more over the future in Subs from IML, so I should make sure I've got a setup that plays the subs as best as possible also.
Hope this information helps you or anyone else looking at purchasing a setup!
Cheers,
Ali
