If I'm understanding you correctly, it is so, I believe, but it's not that the effects get "less obvious", but that they feel like your natural state (there's this funky Naturalizer module... )
Trouble is, this works both ways. F. in. if you're under constant barrage of unpleasantness, that tends to become "normalized" as well. I start noticing that something's amiss whenever I'm attempting to do something to change what appears to be "normal" to something I'd prefer, and then start getting hit with an obvious increase in negativity coming my way.
