So today I went to a surgeon to deter mine whether or not I 'need' surgery for my pectus excavatum.
She was female.
Anyhow, we got talking about it, normal stuff, then she asked "Does it run in your family" and I'm like "I assume so because it's a genetic defect" then she's like "No, we don't assume anything. We need to be rational." and I'm like "ok but, it's genetic." and she goes "We're supposed to be on the same team here." and I'm like "We are! I'm just trying to figure out how it works. If this is a genetic disorder that skips a generation, how could it NOT be in the family?" she just reiterates "we don't assume. So, is there a history of it in your family" I'm like "not that I know of."
But that seriously hit me sideways. Wtf?
Anyone else find that strange?
Anyhow, my condition isn't bad enough to qualify for surgery. I still want it though for aesthetic reasons. Guess I'd better make some money.
