I'm not sure death is necessary in a dream for the transformation or transition to take place. It could simply be a CHOICE to embrace the new reality instead. In other words, you're deathly afraid of this change, but it isn't really something scary to begin with... you're responding to giant shadows on the wall being cast by ants walking in front of flashlights on the floor...
