He's not really doubling the price. It's still $115 per version of the program. He's just choosing to sell them as a bundle instead of separate.
But still, it is a bit of a bold move!
Since it is a bundle, I'd like to know if you can switch between the two with out a rest period?
Wasn't 2.3 the same as 2.2 but without healing? If it was fine to switch back then I'd guess it'd be fine for 3.0.1.
Switching from 2.4 to 2.5 was the first time Shannon didn't recommend a break, and was also a test to see how badly people encountered turbulence. Every version has had at least some tweaking and changes, and 2.3 was different from 2.2 (it wasn't exactly the same program with healing modules disabled).
