This forum is so far the first place I've ever read or heard the definition of an "alpha male" be something other than that most commonly applied to non-human animals, i.e. the leader of the pack (usually through force, though it's entirely possible leadership could be obtained through other means) and as a result with first (best?) pick of pretty much everything shared by the group. There's nothing in that about "self-actualization" or "self-fulfillment" or other psychology, it's literally "be better than the other guy(s) and the world is your oyster." Where does the psychology of this supposed "modern" or "ascendant" alpha male come from?
