Going back to Soul mates I'll elaborate on what Shannon means by twin flames. Twin Flames are 2 halves of soul where one is the masculine polarity and the other is the feminine. It is the exact opposite of you and you won't meet your twin flame without significant spiritual growth.

Hercules, you have to remember that that is one point of view on the matter. Other points of view state that there is no "masculine and feminine" for the soul, because the soul is not a body and does not require gender for reproductive purposes.

According to that point of view, "twin flames" are, depending on who you ask, two fragments of the same original soul, or two souls who were "created to be together".

But we don't have any real way of knowing what or how much of this is accurate.

The Universal law of Gender cannot be broken so anothing in creation must have a Masculine and Feminine polarity.
