There's actually a huge amount of research that backs up that too much sugar is bad for you, whether it is from carbs, refined sugar, or fruit. Too much sugar can cause metabolic syndrome, diabetes, accelerated aging, and is a powerful fuel source for cancer cells, in fact it is the only source cancer cells can use (normal cells can use fatty acids/ketones for energy). It also causes inflammation and oxidative damage generally, as well as glycation in the skin, giving it a wrinkled, sagging, appearance. A lot of evidence is even pointing to sugar as a main cause of Alzheimer's disease, or type 3 diabetes (a kind of diabetes of the brain). I'm not saying don't eat fruit, because there's a lot of good stuff in it, but too much fruit means too much sugar.
