You're not wasting your time. Unless you are completely deaf to high frequency sounds, or are using the masked tracks with serious hearing loss, you're still getting something in that ear. Listening with one ear, via stereo projection source, is also a heck of a lot better than one speaker with two ears - to the point that I wouldn't worry about it.
