It's hard to know the truth because so much of what is available is found traced back to the Internet, where anyone can say anything and rumor and lie becomes fact by virtue of retelling. There have been cases where professional news sources have gotten busted on a story they reported on because upon tracing it back to its source, it was entirely false.
From my best understanding, subliminals are used to influence people, and not just audio, but also visual and olfactory as well (scent). It seems to be fairly common practice in stores to enhance sales (I'm sure) and detract from theft (they claim).
They can't lessen the impact of my subs. They're not made anywhere near as powerfully as mine are, and you aren't getting anywhere near enough exposure to even worry... unless perhaps you happen to work where they're being used, AND they somehow contradict my scripting.
As for the media using them... I have no credible sources in either direction. But if they are in use, one can simply follow the money and find the likely answer.
