That means you have exceeded the volume at which your speakers can handle the audio reproduction without distortion. It is possible for speakers that are able to reproduce ultrasonic audio properly to have difficulty at high volumes because the resulting force creates distortion, which comes out as static.
If you follow the directions for setting the volume and still have the static... then there's something wrong with either the speakers or the player.
