I guess it should be as short as possible but I wonder how many seconds the break is allowed to be when listening back-to-back, because I noticed that most players have a little lag when switching to the next track. If it's more than a few seconds it should actually be able to change the listening device/speakers/headphones

I have never seen any player lag by seconds when switching. I have a crappy phone that lags like crazy, too. Don't worry about it. Just do the best you have available.

By the way, I'm using VLC. No lag that I can see. On a shitty Galaxy J3 Prime. Serious lag elsewhere. I mean like I swipe to unlock the screen and sometimes it will time out before the keyboard comes up for entering the password, and the screen goes blank again.
