Going through very similar shit right now Man,I swear, very soon,after many years of dealing with toxic family members,I am finally divorcing almost every one of MY Family members,except my mother and an older cousin,whose like a sister to Me. Defintley dealing with MY Mother and the issues there of,exactly as you described too,
I have a large family and extended family,Im done with thier asses.dealing with a lotta shit on a lot of levels with a lot of souls,plus all the stuff that USLM2 is bringing up,dealing with and processing for Me..

I have to agree with Keith here. I'm in the process of finally getting my degree then I'm moving to entirely different country. I obviously don't plan on talking to any of my family members ever again, mother included. So there is no universal law saying you have to keep a relationship with people just because they are related to you. That just seems to be a cultural assumption that really doesn't take into account when such family members are very toxic or are holding you back because they "refuse" to deal with their own issue. I like what one person has said, "You should have standards for people you choose to have relationships with in your life but for those relationships you didn't have a choice in choosing (relatives, etc) those standards should be even higher since you had no choice in the matter".

Point is if your relatives don't plan on changing at all (which is a likely option because not everyone "wants" to change) then you only end up getting hurt in the long run by choosing to associate with them especially if you notice they are negatively influencing you more than you are positively influencing them.
