What have helped me through my way back has been working with my breath. When you can breathe fully and use your body to breathe, you will be fine. Like totally fine, able to let go of old things, don't take things personally, etc. The chakra-system have helped me to have some kind of framework to work with in regards to emotional healing, both in a phyhsical sense but also to understand my situation from a intellectual perspective. Chakra meditations have really helped, and is helping me every day.
You are talking about a foundation, and I'm guessing that this foundation is what your identity and sense of self is built upon. When you start getting in contact with your body and your breath, you get more in contact with the different pars of yourself, and doing changes in your life doesn't get so scary, as your sense of self (and perhaps emotional security) is more grounded.
