That's because you're not following the logic. If you're neither a fighter nor a professional athlete, then feeling "depleted" after sex shouldn't matter. You abstain from sex to achieve a purpose. If you make your living using your mind then abstaining from sex isn't going to be very useful.
Even if what you're saying is true (which is completely wrong in the tantric tradition where sex is seen as medicine) the logic holds.
