A crackling noise doesn't sound right, but it's weird you notice it with both the speakers and headphones.

Usually you should hear the tone until around 20 seconds and it stops when it goes past that as it goes to ultrasonic. If this crackles then it's something with the speakers. If not it might just be one of the sounds in the ocean surf.
