Good question. It has to have something to do with individual brain chemistry. I don't have the problem, surprisingly. I'm pretty sensitive to a lot of things that can cause depression of any sort. For instance, choline. If I supplement choline - in any form - I become depressed very, very rapidly.
I recently tried a version of folate that's methylated (l-methylfolate), and a methylated version of B12 (methylcobalmin). Apparently, I don't require methylated anything - 'cuz it made me explosively angry. I did a little research, and sure enough, it's a side effect in people who have enough methyl groups (or more than enough). I should have learned that lesson with Sam-E.
I digress...Some people are sensitive, and I don't currently know of any way to overcome that sensitivity.
