Sometimes it can happen at first but tends to get better.
Though using a masked version on headphones might explain some of it too. I've tried listening to things that I can consciously hear like that at night and I can't do it, especially with headphones. It's why I use ultrasonic on speakers at night now.
Sleeping on one side is fine, I have speakers on one side of the room.
