Also, I went on an amateur off-the-beaten-path camping trip with my cousin last year. I thought a bear was going to eat us at one point. Not something I'll be doing again that's for sure!
Ahaha yeah I've always had a fear of bears. Then once a year n half ago I was up in the mountains in BC near my town and I saw a massive black bear and nearly shit myself. Luckily my puppy Shepherd didn't notice the bear because she was off leash at the time.
That's crazy man. First, I didn't know you lived in BC! And second, my cousin had the same experience. He was walking through the woods one time, turns a corner of a hill or something and there's this bear just staring at him. He said he just turned around and walked away lol. Sounds terrifying.

One day I will hike that trail when I am able to (no curfew) and have the money and resources needed to do the trip.
I am dying for an outdoor nature self exploration journey like that massive trail would be. Bring my German Shepherd and 1 or 2 close friends & some maybe some LSD/Magic Mushrooms and it would be a surreal experience.
I know what you mean man. I was walking in the woods one time near Banff (you know Banff I assume) and as I was walking I suddenly realized there was no reason a bear wouldn't be around lol. It's like I suddenly realized that bears live in the forest, and that I was IN the forest lol. It was crazy. So i just left lol.

It's interesting that you also had a bear dream before.
Yeah it was actually a few dreams for me. Scary both times the bear was attacking me and I was outsmarting it.
As for bear attacks, yeah man. I want to be able to go on off-road camping trips again but after that (stupid) camping trip me and my cousin took, I vowed I would never do that again unless I knew how to start a fire, survive in cold conditions (the weather turned bad despite therte being a good forecast), and can fight off a bear.
I looked into spears, knives, and guns that would be useful fighting against bears as soon as I got home because of it lol. I don't think I've ever felt so mortal in all my life.
Yeah its a pretty crazy feeling seeing a wild animal that could end your life. It's almost like having the feeling having a gun pointed at you I imagine would feel like.
You are no longer in control of your life (to a degree you are but you know what I mean).
It's interesting that some people don't have this fear like me and you have. I ve had it from a young age but my best friend who ironically has a native astrology sign of a bear and a bear tattoo has never been afraid of bears. me and him would be in forests when we were 7 by his grandmas house and I remember being worried about bears and he never has any issues.
The best weapon is Bear mace, then a gun. But most hunting guns don't go through bears so it's useless and mace would be much more effective.
Air horns are also very effective and I've had a park ranger in a lake by my house tell me that it's what they carry and is one of the best things to use.
I spent allot of time studying bears and watching one too many documentaries on bears (made the fear worse watching bear attack videos)
The one documentary I would recommend watching is "man who lives with bears" it's a real documentary about a man who has been living in Alaska alone while feeding and playing with 20 wild bears every day for the last 20 years. He still hasn't died and he lets them in his house and he interacts with random wild grizzly.
It's a surreal and unbelievable documentary to watch. it shows him interaction with all the bears. It's kinda scary to watch because you imagine at any second they eat him. it's eery.
Don't look a grizzly in the eye, black bears are usually not dangerous and will not attack unless you try threatening them or running and if you ever see a cub. immediately go the opposite direction and pray to god the mother doesn't see you. That's when all bears become extremely hostile.
There is a crazy video on youtube of a mountain biker with a go pro running away from a grizzly bear. He eventually falls off his bike and slowly walks away and hides and the bear leaves him alone but was chasing him HARD downhill for a good minute. it was scary.
I don't know if I'l ever truly get rid of my fear of bears. If I lived in the states I'd always have a powerful gun on me if I went out in the bush.
