Yesterday after reading a couple of journals & the article that @Benjamin posted in one of those journals I like a couple of other folks realized how most if not all of my current problems stem from disturbingly low self esteem. That said I purchased the 5.5G version & plan to start today after work. I've noticed there are the regular flac versions & silent versions. Both are Ocean Surf & Stream. I am known to gloss over something when reading but here I'm confused as to what the difference between the two are?There is also the obvious ultrasonic sonic versions.

I think this is your first encounter with the hybrid format, which was introduced along with the 5.5Gs (except E2, I think). You have the regular masked format, the ultrasonic format and now you also have the hybrid format. Each format comes as compressed .mp3 and as uncompressed .flac

Thank you. I bought the Kindle version of The Six Pillars of Self Esteem as well. Great book so far

FLAC is a higher quality format and can be slightly more effective.

From the FAQ.

I estimate that there is a small but significant increase in the clarity of the audio with FLAC encoding. You will likely notice a difference using FLAC, but it probably won’t be a huge one.

MP3 throws away data that is considered “statistically irrelevant” based on human hearing. This is called lossy compression. Throw away what won’t be missed anyway.

FLAC uses lossless compression. No matter how unlikely it is to be detected by human healing, it is kept.

MP3s (the way I make them) gives you 10% of the file size of the original file, and approximately 94% of the effectiveness. FLAC gives you around 50% of the file size, and 100% of the effectiveness.
