A Quora answer on being expert-generalist - apollolux - 09-20-2015

An answer was posted over the weekend to the Quora question What are the best-kept secrets of successful business people? which caught my eye. It references Berkshire-Hathaway billionaire Charlie Munger instead of the usual Warren Buffett and talks about being an "expert-generalist" or a "T-shaped individual," essentially the evolution of a jack-of-all-trades and the counterpoint to the 10,000-hour "master-specialist."

I know I've personally gone both routes and have achieved some success previously, mainly as a specialist. Who here approaches success in one of the above ways, in both, or in a different way entirely and how? Which way would be more conducive to becoming a successful alpha?
