Audio processing for fun and profit - apollolux - 08-24-2015

Is anyone else here interested in digital audio/signal processing besides Shannon and myself?

For years I've studied audio, first as a musician (trombone, singer, flute, some guitar), then as a programmer (JavaScript, PHP, C++), and also as a composer (mainly electronic, but that's more a function of what's available to me rather than a purely stylistic choice). Finding out what makes Yamaha's FM synthesizers (especially the YM2612 in the Sega Genesis/Mega Drive and the YM2151 in Capcom arcade games like Street Fighter II) tick was a major driving force in my quest to become a competent programmer and audio engineer, and writing the first YM2612 audio emulator completely in JavaScript is currently my proudest achievement, and that's saying a lot for me because I developed a defense mechanism against pride at an early age due to seeing my mother consistently make bad choices, often affecting my brother and/or me, using pride as an excuse.

I'm looking to find people here who want to discuss what music or digital audio means to them. I want to engender discussion of audio among this group of people who are willing to acknowledge and usually accept the legitimacy of subliminal and supraliminal audio signals as a potentially viable means of transmitting a message to be accepted subconsciously (though I still don't necessarily know how that actually happens).

Serious discussions such as this often devolve into off-topic tangents and such on boards like KVR Audio or Hydrogen Audio, where, even though the technical discussions on signal processing are top-notch, discussions on the theory and psychology associated with things like ultrasonic audio messaging are not often accepted; on Gearslutz, for example, I saw a discussion on subliminal messaging devolve into a discussion on demons and religion, and I'd much rather avoid that.

Let's talk digital audio! If the knowledge is freely available, please feel free to discuss it here assuming it's within the forum's rules. Myself, for example, I can contribute regarding certain audio synthesis methods (my favorite being FM synthesis) and some digital signal processing if anyone here is so inclined to discuss it.
