I guess doing some of those stuff like playing comp games(once in a while) could be beneficial for you in order for you to reach your goal. It prevents you from having burnouts. Think of them as temporary "essential" pauses. But always remember not to get well engrossed to such activities or it'll be a problem you would call "distraction". Sports and outdoor stuff are also better examples of such temporary pauses compared to playing video games. But if you prefer playing video games then I suggest you play it for the minimum amount of time that it can be played after which you could go back to what you were doing previously. just my two cents
