Social Skills are what I need first and forem ost. It's become glaringly obvious that I'm just missing something, yet all the books I'm reading don't seem to help. And yes, I apply the principles.
How to Win Friends and Influence People for example. The advice "Ask about other people" "show interest in other people" or whatever it is. Where you ask people about themselves. I can do that till the end of time yet as soon as I go to talk about me, the convo dies, people leave. It's like they only want me for THEIR validation and anything to do with me is not interesting to them.
Or take relating to people.
The other day a guy was telling me a story about why he loves his brother and how they're so close but never used to be. So I said "Yeah it used to be like that with my brother too. We were apart but we've gotten closer and I couldn't stand the idea of hurting him. I want good things for him" etc.
Silence.
Literally the guy just said "huh."
And I'm like "Hmm?"
And he says "nah I just realized, sometimes you don't have to say anything" WTF?
Then take smiling and being positive. Doesn't work for me. Smirking does (thank god) and saying "I'm awesome, how are you?" when people ask me how I am also works very well, but I've not managed to forge any relationships.
People like to help me but then I feel bad because I don't know what I can do to pay them back. And I'm constantly trying to find ways to pay people back or support them somehow.
Or, like in sales, it's always a see-saw battle of who is going to be helping whom. I feel like many people give me the sale to just help me (since it's something they'd get anyways) but don't want anything to do with me after the fact. And I want to be the one helping THEM but they always seem to wrestle that position away from me.
It is literally a nightmare.
And then there is another guy in sales who I personally think is annoying. He talks non-stop and everyone else seems to think he's annoying too. YET, he gets a TON of sales lol. And because of that, people listen to him.
Maybe I just don't have any value, I don't know.
I have a good hair cut, and I'm grooming myself daily, so it's not that.
I just don't know.
