hahaha never saw this thread until now....so may as well jump in while I charge my mobile phone lol

starwars originals.... set a precedent that cannot be emulated or beaten.

So, you're telling us in advance that you're closed-minded to anything other than the originals - that makes my argument much easier, as anything you say from here on out comes from a place of nostalgia.

So lets move on to the prequels...... we all watched it to see how the genius that is george lucas would weave a tale to fulfil the originals.

hes an amazing story teller and writer, but he should have stopped there and allowed Spielberg or someone else direct. He messed up but he did bring digital effects to the world.

Amazing story teller, shit writer (dialogue in AotC) and control freak director that got better by RotS.

So force awakens: entertaining drivel. Entertaining because it was well paced and was a homage to the originals. Drivel because nothing new was done. Nothing inspirational. Star wars original brought us something new from the effects to the music to the story (in a way) and the prequels brought us new digital effects. This brought us nothing however it did leave many plot points that the next movie could then delve into.... such as reys parentage.

To you. Plenty found Rey, BB-8, Phasma, and Kylo Ren (a villain with some depth, rather than just "I'm evil, mothafucka!") new and inspirational. Unfortunately, it seems many people with issues think/feel each movie should have been tailored to their tastes as individuals, which is laughable. Can't please everyone, but clearly the ticket sales for each release (and at home sales) show more than enough people were very pleased. It really is a minority of people complaining.

I did like Lukes reveal at the end though.

I cant wait to see LUKE use his powers in the next movie.....oh wow cant wait at all!

Which he did in TLJ - something more powerful, pure JEDI, and amazing than anything seen in any SW movie to date - and then the next thing you say:

You said nothing but, "AWFUL!" Lol, okay. I mean, state ANY reason why. Though, SW is like religion to people, and therefore more belief-system based/brain-etched in emotion, and changing attitudes and minds towards any of these movies is going to be near-impossible for anyone. You didn't like it, I guess you didn't like it. I just feel that people aren't watching close enough to see that TLJ was extremely well thought-out, with flaws (and ANY SW movie has flaws).

Things I wanted to see in Starwars:

1) Attack of the Clones: I wanted to see the power of Yoda! I wanted him to jump into that gladiator arena to save the cast by lifting 10+ sabers with his mind, spread out around him and the others in a circle defending them.

All we saw was an old man jump to life like Dick Van ***** hahahahaha

What? We saw Yoda bounce around like a maniac, which was alright, but I would have preferred leaving what he's capable of to imagination. Yoda was always the wise one, best left to being the wise teacher, rather than a warrior. "Wars make not one great."

2) Attack of the Clones & Revenge of the Sith: The reason for Anakin being the most powerful jedi ever - we saw nothing.

The movie was about the fall of Anakin - seeing him as "the most powerful Jedi ever!" was not even the point. We didn't see a lot of shit, but we saw enough - IMO. I mean, I wanted to see him take out all the Tuscan Raiders viciously in AotC, but we didn't get that. Oh well. It may not have made his turn at the end of RotS as tragic if we had seen everything.

3) Last jedi: Wanted to see why Luke was the greatest and most Powerful Jedi ever - we didnt!

LOL! Did you watch the movie!? The climax - where he faced down the First Order and reestablished himself as the LEGEND the galaxy needed him to be - without attacking AT ALL (fully completing his character arc), embarrassing the SHIT out of his nephew Kylo in front of BOTH sides (again, without attack) was not only epic, but the most epic thing we've seen in any SW movie!

Reyes parents - nothing.

Which is perfect. Now we're back to either A.) a powerful force user can be anyone from anywhere, like Luke was before we found out "Oh, he's Darth Vader's son, so you have to be born special with special genes." or B.) We'll find out in the next movie it was a red herring, or C.) perhaps she's a clone (and there numerous clues to that being a possibility, including a musical cue that calls back the Kamino theme from AotC as we approach one of Rey's scenes on Ach-to).

And Luke's training wasn't in ESB? Not to mention, he was a whiny little bitch (reminds me of...Kylo!?) "Let's lift some rocks and do somersaults in the air!" Rey was given more wisdom, different from the other movies, about the folly of the fallen Jedi order. We didn't want to see the same shit, or some cartoon-like "Me woman warrior!" Could you at least extrapolate what makes you think it was awful?

For me the best actor in force awakens was without any doubt Finn / John Boyega and they ruined him in the last jedi.

How so? No support for your claim. To me, he was badass. That bacta suit was funny as shit, he showed growth as a character, and actually beat Phasma's ass.

I didnt watch solo at the cinema, I wont be watching the final movie in this new triliogy at the cinema either. I think JJ is Over rated. Hes made some entertaining movies such as star trek or mission impossible etc. But give a director or anyone the money and support and backing that he and spielberg both got in the start of their career and then get the media to speak highly of them and boom they will seem to have that midas touch.

I've probably said it in this thread already (I've forgotten if I have), but my primary issue with episodes 7 & 8 is that they try too hard to be like eps 4 & 5 without understanding why SW fans enjoyed 4 & 5.

How can you even say that about Episode 8?? It was a refreshing change to have a somewhat original story in star wars for once.

While I agree that the story of ep 8 is more original than some detractors may give it credit for (I certainly don't remember another Star Wars where the Rebellion crashes the party at Space Monte Carlo to find Neo to help them hack The Matrix ), the vibe of the thing is more like ep 5 than I would have preferred. I don't remember if it was in this thread or if it was a video like one on the Film Theory channel, but describing TLJ as having a vibe of "failure" was a pretty fair assessment, and that overarching failure vibe and how that failure is depicted and progresses is similar enough to ESB in my opinion to at the very least be an homage.

Episode 7 seemed quite symbolic / metaphorical. The main message being that the masculine / musculinity is being killed / dead.

Kylo Ren (the feminine) kills Han Solo (the masculine).

Also, Han Solo (Clint Eastwood / John Wayne / masculine type movies) are now dead, killed by Kylo Ren (political correctness / politically correct movies).

Yeah, I know Kylo Ren is a dude, but man is he campy / effeminate.

So Kylo is effeminate because he's emotional? Let's go back to the prequels and look at Anakin. Kylo is much more like Anakin (was he not whiny as hell?), than Han. If we pay attention, it seems clear that Han was an absentee father, and Kylo had no one but his mother (also likely more involved with government than raising her son). If Kylo's character had just been some carbon-copy of Han, that would have lazy writing indeed. Kylo is a villain with some depth, for a change. I love the original trilogy, but if I'm honest with myself, talk about one-dimensional characters.

I like the symbolism you've come up with, but I'm not sure JJ and Kasdan mapped that out as they wrote the script. It reminds me of Lost, when people had all sorts of theories that read into or went way beyond the author's intent.

In "No More Mr. Nice Guy" we learn that "nice guys" (often anything but "nice") are often a product of absentee fathers and single mothers... *cough* Kylo *cough cough*

Although I agree, we could be reading into it, but it IS there.

Ok but, let's be fair, every movie ever has a vibe of "the good guys win" So in that sense, they ALL have the same vibe.

For me, TLJ had some awesome moments: R2 showing Luke the hologram that started it all to remind him of what it's all about (hey, I can nerdgasm too!), Yoda speaking of failure (this was AMAZING imo. Too many people think failure is a failure and end up like Luke. I see it every day in sales, people who are beaten by life but they miss the point. And I'm glad the writers/directors or whomever made that point in the movie as it's something society, as a whole, needs to internalize. "I've failed over and over again in my life. And that is why I succeed" - Michael Jordan), Luke's death (I actually didn't want him to die, but it was poetic in a sense he died just like Obiwan without it being blatantly obvious or copy-paste like some scenes in Rogue One),

The only scene/part I had an absolute detestment to was Leah's spacewalk. My god. Talk about the shit in the punch. Carrie Fisher died so it was the perfect place to let Leah die. I thought that was it and I was tearing up thinking "This is brilliant!"... till those fingers moved.... Bruh.

Anyhow, yeah great movie, especially the part where Luke is gonna kill Kylo but he reconsiders, but Kylo wakes up and doesn't know he's reconsidered, and he reacts as you'd expect him to, and it's tragic because he feels betrayed so you can see why he'd act the way he does. I can't fault Kylo at all for who he is. Very juicy movie. Lots of meat. Some stupidity (monte carlo/free the horses shit) and the shit of course but mostly, fantastic. What star wars movie doesn't have a stupid part anyways?

Meh, thought I post this here. Even Disney admits, with their own numbers, that the Star Wars side of the business is losing them money. Its only being offset by the MCU mainly. Eh, guess they were wrong about the people being upset with the Franchise only being a sexist, racist, toxic fanboy minority lol. They defintely aren't making the fandom like them even more with what they did to the Fan Made Vader film either, that already has a lot of people pissed off.
