You would be surprised at how much unhealthy food and drink will affect your mental state, it's like your stomach has a direct connection to your brain.
There is alot of research out there concerning the effects of unhealthy eating on mental and emotional wellbeing.

Avoid processed foods and foods high in saturated fats. Not all tinned foods are processed, tinned salmon is great in a sandwich with mayo and sardines are good too if you like that sort of thing. Try not to eat red meat more than three times per week. Avoid battered foods and marinated foods which have very high sodium content. Also try to cut back on really sugary foods, sugar is corrosive and is actually processed as a poison by your body.
Stuff like baked potatoes, rice, pasta, all fruit and veg, chicken, turkey, trimmed pork, lamb etc. are all good. Avoid eating large amounts of matured cheeses, its a popular thing these days but really not good for your health.
In fact a healthy meal will make you feel physically and mentally good after eating it. Try making a leafy salad with some goats cheese, cherry tomatoes, avocado, cucumber etc. in it and use your favourite dressing (ie. italian dressing) and eat it with some egg and bread-crumbed chicken breast strips fried in olive oil. You will feel great afterwards.
If you are going to fry anything, stay away from vegetable oil, sunflower and canola oil, and fats and instead shallow fry in olive oil and grapeseed oil etc.
As for drinks stay away from energy drinks they are so fkin bad for you, full of sugar, caffeine and a bunch of other unnatural ingredients. Fruit juice is okay but not in excess because it still contains alot of sugar. More than anything you want to be drinking straight water, rainwater and spring water because tap water tends to contain alot more chlorides and fluorides and other agents. One cup of coffee is fine everyday, so is one or two cups of tea. Just try to stick to low fat milk and dont use much sugar, generally one teaspoon is fine.
