What would concern me with conscious astral travel is that putting yourself into conscious Theta too frequently trains your brain to stay there. That is a problem because it seems to correlate with ADD and ADHD. Witness the rise of these "disorders" as people began watching more and more TV and movies, which typically put you into waking Theta within 5 to 15 minutes... and effectively train your brain to stay there when it should be in Beta.
This is also supported by the fact that my ADD/ADHD aid works, and it is based on the concept of shifting the brain into Beta (fully awake) and training it to stay there while you are awake.
Aside from that, training for at-will astral travel seems a bit beyond the bounds of my little niche here.
