Hi Shannon and thanks again for your great work. I have a few resources that I use to narrow down my picks. The first one is a book and the second one is a members website that charts statistics from that book, as well as other variables in the pick 5 game. This is what I use :
1. "Beat The Odds In The Lottery: How A Pro Forex Trader Also Plays & Wins The Lottery" by Igor Toshchakov
2. www.emuis.be
Igor uses probability theory and the 2/3 rule to examine the lottery. It's not a quick read and it took me a while to decide how I was going to use it. I decided to use his analysis, but I chose to wheel a group of numbers that fit his probability rules, rather than trying to pick each play separately based on his criteria. It basically says that a certain amount of numbers will be drawn in the first round (each round is 8 draws), some numbers will repeat, and some will be left out.
I met Serge, the owner of emuis.be online at Lottery Post. I was looking for someone who could make the automated charts that Igor talks about in his book, because I didn't want to have to do it all by hand. He made those and lots of others for me on his site. The 5 that I use most are the "followers", "last 7 draws", the "skips and series" , "frequencies" and "last 3 weeks". He has everything charted and you can sort through some of the charts to see the highest or lowest hitters for each category. It is particular for CA 5/39, but he has some for other states as well. The draw history is automatically updated each day.
I use the "followers" chart to get the numbers that are drawn after a certain number hits. I use the top 5 from that, for each of the 5 winning numbers from the last draw. That gives me between 17 to 22 numbers, because some of the numbers are usually duplicated. I then use Igor's methods and see how many of those numbers have been drawn 1x,2x, and 3x or more. I analyze the game to see if we need more 1x,2x, or 3x or more hitters, and I work with the followers to fill that criteria. Sometimes, I also get a feeling about a number even if it is not in the followers, so I will include it. I like the visual charts that Serge makes because it is easy to see what numbers are hot, what repeats, and what is cold. Numbers do run in cycles, and they always turn around. What was hot last month might be cold this month.
I usually try to include a balance of numbers. For example, I will wheel 9 numbers so 2 of those will be singles (1-9), 2 of those will be teens (10-19), 2 of those will be twenties (20-29), and 2 of those will be thirties (30-39). If a group is running hot, I try to pick an additional number from that group.
It sounds like a lot but I have been working with the numbers like this for a few months and it has become easy for me to narrow them down this way. I sometimes get a feeling about a number, and tend to trust my gut instincts, too. Like any other method, it is not perfect, but I have gotten some good hits, and now a jackpot playing this way.
