Surround Sound Speakers

I've read a lot of people saying they're using stereo speakers (2 speakers) for best exposure. I have surround sound set up in my room (5 speakers).

May be a silly question but is it just as good?

Even better, especially if you have them positioned around you; speakers have to be able to handle more than the 20khz frequency.
