Vitamin D of all kinds is pretty cool, usually 2,000 IUs/day is recommended. 20,000 IUs is a damn high dosage - then again, most people have a vitamin D deficiency (especially depending on the climate you're in - moderate to shitty climes would require you to run around butt-naked all the time the sun's out - *all* the time, really - to not have a deficiency in this area, lol). It's a good idea in general to supplement it for most people.
IIRC, there's a relatively straightforward way to tell whether you're overdoing it (which can have drastically bad consequences, TBH. It's why, f. in., endocrinologists are often wary of supplementing D): if you start getting an unpleasant, copper-metallic taste in your mouth for no apparent reason, that means you may have done a bit too much for yourself.
