I have been laid off from my job.
This is excellent. I'm getting an excellent severance package, which is better than I had expected. This is combined with the benefit of no longer reporting to a manager for- and from- whom I had no respect and a job which was completely unsatisfactory.
Right now, this is much like a combination of a summer vacation and an opportunity to accomplish some of the things I've not made time to do.
I credit AM5 and OGSF for changing how I reacted to this event. In the past, I've taken it very personally and made a big deal about it, usually crippled by fear of being jobless forever. This time, my reaction is attenuated to a great degree, though some of the negativity is still there.

Fear is a liar.
There is nothing noble in being superior to your fellow man; true nobility is being superior to your former self. -- Ernest Hemingway
